Do you know what makes you mad? According to many therapists and psychologists it is injustice that "makes us mad". Believing that something is unjust or unfair, is the perception which incites anger.
Perception of loss = Sad
Perception of good = Happy
Perception of threat = Fear
Perception of injustice / unfair = Mad
When we perceive an unjust situation, and focus on it in anger, we begin to become more and more aware of situations of injustice. We become more and more aware of whatever things we begin to focus our attention upon. Whatever we are seeking we will find. Whatever we are looking for will keep showing itself to us.
If I focus on good, I will perceive more good things. If I focus on gratefulness I will become more and more aware of things to be grateful for. If I focus on someone's faults I will continue to be aware of more faults, becoming more and more blind to their successes. If I focus on unjust or negative situations I will see more and more unjust and negative situations.
This cycle of perceiving injustice and inciting anger, if left uninterrupted, could very easily create an internal, tormenting hell. An individual getting stuck in this cycle would perpetually be living in anger, anxiety and fear; seeing more and more of life as unjust. A society that gets caught in this cycle would be a very hellish and frightening place to be in.
In the Bible it states that God is Just. He is a God of Justice, and His throne is founded on Justice. Although it is easy to find many situations of injustice in our world, we must be careful not to focus on them. We are to focus on God, and trust in who He is.
God is Love. Love displaces fear - our perception of threats. When we truly know and grasp the depth and limitlessness of God's love, we awaken to the fact that there is nothing whatsoever that we should fear.
God is also Just. Knowing that justice will take place displaces anger - our perceptions of injustice. When we truly know and grasp that Justice will inevitably occur then we will no longer believe that we need to hold onto our anger. We can be at peace, knowing that ALL situations will be brought to Justice. We will understand that it is not our burden to make Justice occur.
The Bible states "Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, “I will take revenge; I will pay them back,” says the LORD."
We will notice injustice in our lives, and our world, there is no doubt. One of our responsibilities, as individuals, is to correctly manage our thoughts, beliefs, or perceptions; while also managing our emotions. If we do not correctly watch over ("take captive") our perceptions and our emotions, we can easily find ourselves getting caught in cycles of negativity.
We will experience fear in life, but we must quickly refocus on looking for love and goodness. Remembering that God is in control and He is love. We will see and experience injustice, but we must quickly refocus on looking for love and goodness. Remembering that God is in control, He is Love, and He is Just. Justice will occur. You don't have to worry, or carry that burden.
To experience more of heaven, and of God in your life, begin to look more and more for goodness. Look for situations and proof of God's love. Look for situations and proof of His Justice. Look for situations and proof of His goodness and kindness. Get into a positive, and heavenly cycle of perceptions and emotions.
Notice fear, then let it go. Cast those fears and anxieties to God, and focus on Love. Notice injustice, then let it go. Cast that anger and worries to God, and focus on His promise of Justice.
Let's not get caught up in a cycle of looking for and being aware of injustice, wrongs and negativity. Instead let's get caught up in the cycle of looking for and being aware of things that are right and good.
Let's choose to look for evidence of God; in our lives and in the world. Let's become more and more aware of incidents of kindness, justice, mercy and love. Both negative and positive will exist, both can be found if we look for them. Which one do you want to get caught up in?
