Free To Serve

For you, brethren, were [indeed] called to freedom; only [do not let your] freedom be an incentive to your flesh and an opportunity or excuse [for selfishness], but through love you should serve one another.

Galatians 5:13 AMPC

Let's not forget to serve. Serving is the act of, the proof of, our love. You may say that you have love, or faith, but show me your good works. Without good works, or acts of service, there is no evidence of either faith or love.

Jesus said He came to serve, not to be served. Since it is He whom we claim is living within us then we should see kind & selfless acts, good works, and service being done in our lives.

Good works and service are the sum of, the visible proof that we have, both faith and love. Faith and love, which are unseen initially, are recognized when we see their reality in service and good works. Faith and love are merely words, thoughts, or feelings, until we choose to let them become tangible acts.

"For God so Loved the world..." God loved in thought, in feeling and in word, but His love was proven when He sent. When He went, when He came, when He tangibly showed up and served. All of God's "acts" are the proof of his thoughts and intentions. Without the acts we could not say that we know God loves us.

Jesus said that the world would know who His disciples are by their love. Not by their church attendance. Not even by their bible reading or prayer time. Due to the love that the world sees in us, and from us, they would know that we are disciples of the God of Love.

The world cannot see our invisible emotions or thoughts of love, they can only see our actions. We have not been set free from oppression, worry, fear, etc., only to feel free, but so that we can serve others, in love. These acts of love help others begin to be free, because perfect love casts out fears.

Look for opportunities to love. Proactively find opportunities to serve. Don't waste the love, blessings and freedom that God has given you by hoarding it all for yourself. Rather, use it all to serve one another, humbly, in unselfish love. You are free to serve.
