Delivered from Fear

I sought the Lord [on the authority of His word], and He answered me, And delivered me from all my fears.

Psalms 34:4 AMP

I have experienced many fears in my life. And I still struggle with many of them. Fears of being alone in life, being single, sad & lonely. Or of being unable to protect myself if I were being attacked, or harmed. For many people not having enough money, or provisions for our families needs, is a common fear.

If, or when, we find ourselves facing one of our dreaded, individual fears, we may call out to God to rescue us. When I have found myself in the scenario of being alone and single I have cried to God to rescue me. The loneliness, and the underlying fear, felt more tormenting than I could seem to bear.

Perhaps we've had a steady income and had enough provisions for our families. Until one day the unexpected happens. The career is gone and the economy is sunk. We would most likely cry out, "God rescue me."

Whatever the unique scenarios are that you imagine, and cause you fear, it may help to realize that these are all just circumstances. These things we fear are scenarios. They are not "fears" in and of themselves.

Have you heard the old quote, "There is nothing to fear but fear itself."?

Being alone, being attacked or not having enough money, these are not actually fears. They are only circumstances. It's our perception and belief about the scenario that causes our inner fear.

If being single and alone was a fear then all people would unanimously fear it. Yet some people pursue it. It can be healthy at times. Being single and alone, for some people, feels like heaven.

Being single and alone isn't the fear, it's just a circumstance. The fear is deeper. It's a belief about what I think being single and alone means.

It's the same with our view of money and the fear of not having enough. Some people choose to live with very minimal and without a consistent income. To them this is a liberating and enjoyable experience. Yet to many of us it would be terrifying.

Once again, it's not the circumstance that is the fear. The fear comes from my internal belief about what I think the situation means. The circumstance is just an experience. And the experience is left open for interpretation by the experiencer.

Perhaps it's not the circumstances that God needs to rescue us from, but the beliefs we have that cause us to feel fear. When God delivers us from our fears, maybe He is actually delivering us from our internal perspectives and beliefs.

Deliver us, rescue us Lord. Yes, from circumstances that aren't good for us. But more importantly, from the beliefs within our minds that create and give power to fear.

Help us to seek you about our fears, and to hear your response. Because the response of your spoken word will confront and eliminate the lie of fear that currently resides within us.

"I sought the Lord [on the authority of His word], and He answered me, And delivered me from all my fears."
