When He had finished speaking, He said to Simon [Peter], “Put out into the deep water and lower your nets for a catch [of fish].”
Simon replied, “Master, we worked hard all night [to the point of exhaustion] and caught nothing [in our nets], but at Your word I will [do as you say and] lower the nets [again].” When they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their nets were [at the point of] breaking;
Luke 5:4-6 AMP
["After He had finished speaking / teaching..."]
Examining our past, or perhaps our present lives, could we have been trying to "launch" before God had finished teaching us what He wanted us to hear and learn. Maybe we have been launching, unsuccessfully, all night - a season that made us discouraged because it did not produce like we had hoped. In those moments of disappointment or discouragement, from having unsuccessful launches, maybe God is calling us to lay our nets down and do what seems illogical - stop cleaning the nets and striving, and come listen and learn.
After that time of disappointment, from a failed launch, and after patiently remaining still while He teaches us, then He will tell us "Launch out again". We will know we have launched at His command and in His timing - in alignment with His will - by the fruits and results that we see.
It seems there were three phases for Simon (Peter).
1) Launching in His own wisdom and timing.
2) A time where he stopped, laid down his nets, and went away from what he thought He should do. He allowed himself to enter a waiting and learning period.
3) The time where He had heard and learned the message needed for the new launching phase, and was instructed to “launch again”.
Let's introspect on whether we are launching in our own strength, desires and efforts. Are we in a phase or season where we should lay down some efforts and hear His message? Is it a time to learn some more while we wait patiently, and stop striving? Or maybe we have been patiently learning and hearing, and now it's time to launch again.
When it's time to launch again, like Simon (Peter), we will need to overcome our logic and discouragement - from prior failed attempts. If something is not working, stop and go hear His teaching; get the message, gain the wisdom. Wait for the teaching to be heard and learned. Then wait for His instruction to, "launch again". You can be sure He intends to tell you to “launch again”. When that instruction comes, do it! And do it with confidence and faith.
