Stop Trying to be Good

What's better? Being Compassionate, or being good?

What is the goal of your moral belief, or religion? To be good (behavior)? Or to be more loving (heart motive)?

What is your goal?

Are we just trying to 'be good'? Or are we trying to be compassionate?

Instead of trying to be good, why don't we just pursue being more loving?

Being more compassionate and loving will result in the appearance of "being good". But love and compassion have power. Power to change us, and others. The power to heal, overlook, forgive and "cover sins". [1 Peter 4:8] Love has the power to heal people of their fears. [1 John 4:18]

In being more loving we end up being good, and creating good. Yet, the goal wasn't to be good, it was just to love and be compassionate.

Trying to be good only results in an appearance of godliness, but denying its power -The power of Love. [2 Tim. 3:5]

Does God want us to do better? Or does God just want us to become more compassionate and loving?

I would suggest; let's not try to be good. Let's not aim at being "good people". Instead let's pursue being Compassionate and Loving.

When we truly love, only then are we truly good. For there is only one that is "good", and that is God [Mark 10:18]; and God is Love. [1 John 4:16]

Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”

Matthew 22:37‭-‬40 NLT

“I give you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, so you also must love each other. This is how everyone will know that you are my disciples, when you love each other.”

John 13:34‭-‬35 CEB

If I have the gift of prophecy and I know all the mysteries and everything else, and if I have such complete faith that I can move mountains but I don’t have love, I’m nothing. If I give away everything that I have and hand over my own body to feel good about what I’ve done but I don’t have love, I receive no benefit whatsoever.

1 Corinthians 13:2‭-‬3 CEB

...God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.

1 John 4:16 NLT

“Why do you call me good?” Jesus asked. “Only God is truly good.

Mark 10:18 NLT

[In the last days people].... will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!

2 Timothy 3:5 NLT

Above all, show sincere love to each other, because love brings about the forgiveness of many sins.

1 Peter 4:8 CEB

Love has no fear, [anxiety, or worry] because perfect love expels all fears. If we are afraid, [anxious, worried, or scared] it is for fear of punishment, [being deprived; that we are lacking something, or in need of something], and this shows that we have not fully experienced His perfect love.

1 John 4:18 NLT
